The City of Wolfforth has officially kicked off construction of its new elevated storage tank, marking a significant step forward in enhancing the city’s water distribution system. The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the project site along Alcove Avenue just north of 20th Street, celebrated this milestone with city leaders, project partners, and community members in attendance.
The City Council awarded the $4,852,000 construction contract to Landmark Structures during their regular meeting on November 4, 2024. The tank will hold an impressive 500,000 gallons of water and stand approximately 140.5 feet tall. Once complete, it will bolster Wolfforth’s water supply infrastructure, ensuring reliable service for residents today and into the future.
City Manager Randy Criswell spoke to the importance of the project during the ceremony, stating:
“Wolfforth is dedicated to ensuring that our water supply, delivery, and distribution systems are prepared to meet the needs of our growing community—both now and in the future. About a year ago, we adopted a comprehensive short-to-medium-term Capital Improvement Plan, allocating over $31 million to critical water system projects. These include expanding water supply, upgrading distribution systems, and constructing new water storage facilities.
This elevated storage tank, representing a $5 million investment, is a cornerstone of that plan. It will significantly enhance our system’s capacity, ensuring reliable water service and supporting our city’s continued growth for decades to come.”
Elevated water storage tanks like this one play a vital role in water infrastructure by ensuring a constant water supply, creating pressure within the distribution system, and improving operations during periods of peak demand or emergencies. They also support water treatment efficiency and help regulate distribution to homes and businesses.
Criswell also acknowledged the vision and leadership that made this milestone possible, adding:
“I am deeply proud of the unwavering commitment of the Mayor and City Council of Wolfforth. Their leadership has been instrumental in turning this vision into reality. Today, Wolfforth is no longer the 'town with no water,' and this tank stands as a powerful symbol of our progress and resilience. It will not only serve our residents but also stand as a visible reminder of what we have achieved and what lies ahead. Together, we are building a future we can all be proud of.”
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on a project that reflects the City of Wolfforth’s long-term commitment to its residents and their quality of life. Once completed, the elevated storage tank will stand as a testament to progress, infrastructure investment, and a shared vision for a stronger, more resilient future.
Stay tuned for project updates as we work to deliver this critical addition to our community’s water system!
