Planning Begins for Patterson Park Civic & Mixed-Use District

The vision for a new civic and mixed-use district in Wolfforth officially moved into the planning stage this week as city and community leaders gathered for the first workshop with the project’s design and planning team.

On September 16, members of the Wolfforth City Council, Wolfforth Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, and key City staff met with Lake|Flato Architects, Hugo Reed & Associates, MWM Architects, and TBG Partners to begin laying the groundwork for the future Patterson Park Civic & Mixed-Use District.

The workshop marked the beginning of an approximately five-month planning process that will ultimately result in a master plan for the district.

The goal is much larger than designing a new City Hall or developing a single piece of property. The City and WEDC are working toward creating a true heart of Wolfforth, a recognizable civic and commercial center where public spaces, local businesses, dining, recreation, events, and everyday community life can come together.

Throughout the workshop, participants were challenged to think about what makes Wolfforth unique today, what the community will need as it continues to grow, and what they hope this district will feel like 10, 20, and even 50 years from now.

Conversations centered around community identity, gathering spaces, parks and recreation, walkability and connectivity, local retail and restaurants, housing and mixed-use development, infrastructure, economic development, and opportunities to connect with educational and community partners.

A recurring theme throughout the discussion was the importance of creating a place that feels authentically Wolfforth.

For generations, Wolfforth has been shaped by its people, its relationships, its schools, and a strong sense of community pride. As the city continues to grow, the Patterson Park district presents an opportunity to intentionally create a central gathering place that carries those qualities forward.

The existing Patterson Park and surrounding civic property will play an important role in that vision. Rather than treating the park, future civic facilities, public spaces, and private development as separate projects, the planning process will look at how they can work together as one cohesive district.

The first phase will also be critical. City and EDC leaders discussed the importance of ensuring the initial investment demonstrates the broader vision for the district by incorporating public gathering spaces, landscaping and streetscape elements, walkability, connectivity, infrastructure, and opportunities for private development alongside civic improvements.

Ultimately, the goal is to create more than a collection of new buildings. It is to create a place.

A place where families gather, businesses grow, community traditions are created, and residents feel a sense of ownership and belonging. Over time, the hope is that the district becomes the established heart of Wolfforth, a place that future generations simply know as downtown.

The September workshop was the first step in turning that long term vision into a physical plan. Over the coming months, the project team will continue working with City and WEDC leadership to study the site, refine priorities, explore development opportunities, and determine how the district can grow in phases.

At the conclusion of the process, the City will have a master plan to help guide future public investment, private development, infrastructure, and placemaking within the Patterson Park Civic & Mixed-Use District.

For Wolfforth, the process is just beginning, but so is the opportunity to intentionally shape a downtown that can serve the community for generations to come.
