The City of Wolfforth and the Wolfforth Economic Development Corporation joined representatives from The United Family and community partners on Friday to celebrate the official groundbreaking of a new United Supermarkets location, marking a significant step forward in the city’s continued growth.
The new store, which will be located in northeast Wolfforth behind the existing United Express fuel station, will be The United Family’s first full-size grocery store in the community and is anticipated to open in 2027.
“This groundbreaking represents so much more than a new grocery store. It marks a major quality-of-life milestone for Wolfforth,” said Danielle Sweat, Executive Director of the Wolfforth Economic Development Corporation. “For the first time, our residents will be able to meet their everyday needs right here at home, without leaving the community. We are incredibly grateful to United Supermarkets for believing in Wolfforth and investing in our families. This project reflects years of collaboration and commitment, and we are proud to see it come to life.”
The project represents a multi-million dollar investment into Wolfforth and is expected to create approximately 200 new jobs, further strengthening the local workforce and economy. In addition to providing essential goods and services, the development is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for additional retail growth and help keep consumer spending within the community.
Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family, emphasized the importance of the project and the strong relationship with the Wolfforth community.
“We are thrilled to announce that Wolfforth will be home to our newest United Supermarkets location,” Hopper said. “It is always exciting to break ground on a new store, but this one is extra special because we know how excited this community is. We love Wolfforth and our team can’t wait to bring our signature service closer to all our guests in this community.”
The next-generation United Supermarkets location will offer a wide range of services and amenities, including a full-service pharmacy with drive-through, mobile grocery ordering with pickup and delivery, ReadyMeals, an in-store bakery, floral services with delivery, and a full-service meat counter.
Guests will also enjoy an enhanced shopping experience with the addition of a Starbucks, Taphouse 16, expanded food service options, and a large covered patio with seating. A unique feature of this location will be a rentable meeting and event space accommodating up to 50 people, further integrating the store into the fabric of the community.
Mayor Charles Addington II highlighted the long-term collaboration that made the project possible.
“The groundbreaking for the United Supermarket is a remarkable event for the City of Wolfforth,” Addington said. “It starts the final stage of a process that has taken years to complete. The United Family and the City of Wolfforth have worked closely together to develop something that will bring a positive impact to all families in the Wolfforth area. It is with great pride and gratitude that I say thank you to everyone involved and look forward to the day we actually open the store.”
As Wolfforth continues to grow, the United Supermarkets project represents not only new jobs and investment, but a lasting enhancement to the daily lives of its residents. What was once a long-standing need in the community is now becoming a reality.
